For several months since the collapse of the Key Bridge, MMTA has written about the various Baltimore tunnel restrictions as trucks look for alternate routes. Although much has been written about the hazmat restrictions, the MD Transportation Authority Police notified MMTA that they are more commonly seeing trucks that are violating the width restriction at the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895).
Vehicles in excess of 13’6” in height, or 96” (8 feet) in width are prohibited from using the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895). The I-95 Ft. McHenry Tunnel restrictions are 14’6” height and 11’0” in width. Please see the information below for a more complete list of restrictions.
TUNNEL RESTRICTIONS:
Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895) Restrictions:
Vehicles more than 13’ 6” high or 96” wide are prohibited.
No doubles.
No hazmat loads (with certain exceptions).
Lane restrictions: Approaching and inside the tunnel no vehicles over 5 tons are permitted in the left lane.
Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) Restrictions:
Vehicles exceeding 14’ 6” high or 11’ wide are prohibited without a permit.
No hazmat loads (with certain exceptions).
Lane restrictions: Approaching the tunnel no vehicles over 5 tons are permitted in the left two lanes. Inside the tunnel no vehicle over 5 tons is permitted in the left lane.
